Game Over for SharkyGames? - April 11th
Perhaps not indefinitely: SharkyExtreme will be carrying some limited gaming content as things progress. However, there will no longer be new content on SharkyGames after April 2001.

Review: Tribes 2 - April 6th
As promised Tribes 2 (they dropped they Starsiege name) gives us new weapons, environments, vehicles and game types. The single player mode is beefed up with the now commonplace bot-match and there's a horde of new maps.

Beatdown #46 - April 4th
Welcome to the special “April Fools Day” edition of Beatdown! Well, not really. It’s actually just a plain vanilla Beatdown that appears close to April 1st. Hey, sue me. This issue we have lots of Serious Sammage, news about the old foot and mouth (as opposed to the foot in mouth problem that I tend to have) and we find out what at least one third of The Police has been up to. Plus regular features like releases and golds and a ton of announcements. You’d be a fool not to tune in!

Forum Frag #21 - March 28th
This week in the Forum Frag we spotlight threads discussing the best games coming out in 2001, Thief 3, Serious Sam, and Windows XP. Just for fun, we have also included some of the best Star Wars quotes and a fun discussion about those crazy abbreviations people use online.

Serious Sam Review - March 23rd
Serious Sam is anything but serious. It's frantic arcade style action more in keeping with side scrolling space shooters like R-Type than cerebral 3D shooters like Half-Life. It's the kind of game where the one-liners make you groan and the hero whistles the Indiana Jones theme when large boulders roll his way. It's really just a hell of a lot fun, and here's why...

Severance: Blade of Darkness - March 19th
The message that developers Rebel Act apparently want to get across with Severance is pretty clear - this is one game where the only way to get past the enemy hordes is by cutting a bloody swathe through them. With no guns in sight and only a weak short bow available for shooting enemies with from afar, the best way to take them out is up close using anything hard or sharp, or ideally a brutal combination of the two. Groovy.

Forum Frag #19 - March 14th
Topics this week include discussions on the superiority of Half-Life, and gamers cast their vote on which game they think will be better: TeamFortress 2 or Tribes 2. This week we're also spotlighting forum topics on gaming addictions and networking problems.

Mousepad Roundup II - March 12th
It doesn't seem so long ago that we were using those boring old cloth-covered mouse mats, does it? Our first Mousepad Roundup had only three mousepads to compare, today we look at a whopping total of seven different styles of mouse pads to consider for your gaming needs.

Value Gaming PC Buyer's Guide - March 9th
Think of our Value Gaming PC as the pocket rocket of computers. While not the fastest PC we can build, it's quick, agile, and has a can-do attitude when it comes to PC gaming. We design this PC to get the most out of every single dollar.

Logitech WingMan RumblePad Review - March 7th
When hardware or software developers incorporate successful ideas from other developers into their own products, it's not called plagiarism, it's called “following the current trend.” So with their WingMan RumblePad, Logitech seems to be “following the current trend” that was set by Sony with their DualShock controller. Well, granted, there are similarities between the two pads, but there's more to the RumblePad than that...

Summoner Preview - March 5th
Volition is best known for Descent and the Freespace series of shooters. Games that offered innovative control schemes, solid and compelling backstories and truly state-of-the-art graphics. Summoner represents Volition's branching out, out of space and confining tunnels into the world of the RPG. I took the opportunity to visit them at their headquarters to see how it's coming along.

Oni Review - February 26th
Oni is essentially a game that's a "beat ‘em up" with a twist. How does a third person free roaming close combat action game with the odd funky gun thrown in for good measure sound? Yeah, pretty cool, huh. Now imagine a healthy dose of Manga influence thrown in for good measure. Is that drool I see on your chin?

High End Gaming PC Buyer's Guide - February 23rd
Each month in the High End Gaming PC Buyer's Guide, we bring you the specifications of what we consider the current most super gaming PC.

Interview: Clive Barker's Undying - February 21st
Clive Barker, one of the world's best-known horror authors, contributed his talents to the making of "Clive Barker's Undying," a first person action game developed by Dreamworks Interactive. We were recently given the chance to sit down with Clive to talk about his work on Undying as well as what he feels makes a video game truly frightening, and his thoughts on games in general.

Sea Dogs Review The golden age of PC piracy occurred in the late 80's with Sid Meier's immortal RPG/adventure/action/simulation hybrid Pirates. A wonderful game that had such an impact it seemed to scuttle any further PC pirating outright. It's been over 10 years since we've seen the likes of eye patches, peg legs and poopdecks and mateys, and that be just a bit too long, says I.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 vs. Links 2001 We had our heart set on a contest of titans: EA Sports's new Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 vs. Arnold Palmer-endorsed Links 2001. With the young upstart franchise in its ascendancy and the old standby series no longer a sure thing, pitting the two head-to-head seemed like an exciting idea. The victor in this contest just might surprise you.

  Console Coverage

Xbox Unclothed! Bill Gates formally announced Microsoft’s entry into the console market last March in his keynote address at the Game Developer’s Conference, and there was a flashy Xbox booth at E3 2000, but it wasn’t until this week at CES that the public got a chance to see the final look of the system and of course its all-important gamepad.
