EA's NHL series is one of the best looking games out there, and it only gets better with the next version. The faces on the players are modeled from real players, which can be either really cool or really creepy, depending on your preferences, but you have to admit, it sure makes the hockey players look unique. If that isn't enough, you'll be able to put a scan of your own face onto a player…now that's definitely creepy.
2001 also adds two new expansion teams to the game, and of course, plenty of new motion-captured moves and players, plus crowd participation (they throw their hats in the rink after a hat trick). For those of you that appreciate Rodney Dangerfield's hockey joke ("I went to see a fight and a hockey game broke out") there are new fighting routines and checking moves. Like Madden 2001, NHL 2001 continues to show that the PC's graphics aren't as bad as the console crowd thinks they are. The PC's resolutions make for fine viewing, and only the PC and Playstation versions have career mode play that lets you follow your favorite players through a career of ups and downs.
