Is the appearance of Red Alert 2 a sequel to the first Red Alert? Or does it so convolute the different possible timelines of Red Alert and Command & Conquer that it represents a parallel universe? Who cares, if you're a fan of this type of game, you'll be pleased to hear about Red Alert 2. Based on the Tiberian Sun engine, the designers focused on one primary thing: units, and lots of them!
The game looks totally different from Tiberian Sun just because there were so many different and new troop and vehicle types. There were troops with new energy weapons, GDI turret towers that use AI to determine whether to pool energy and shoot one big beam at a target, or to spread fire smaller beams at many, and biologic weapons like cybernetically enhanced giant squids and dolphins. There were doppleganger units that can mask themselves as bushes, seal team units, spies that can steal opponent blueprints, and cloning vats. Units can garrison plain buildings and make them useful delaying points against the enemy. One thing is certain; there are plenty of new toys here for C&C fanatics
