Gamers from the old days may remember the line of Olympic games from Epyx. These simple arcade games relied solely on keyboard input and primitive graphics, but were great fun. Imagine tapping keys to make a little green dot run a track race. It's been a while since anyone's done a good PC game about the Olympic Games. We'll see if Sydney 2000 can revive that fun spirit in 3D splendor.
Here are some highlights from the features list and some of our additional comments:
- Official game of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. (Uh oh, an official license.Could be trouble)
- Various modes of play including arcade, olympic, and coaching. (Sounds good!)
- Unique athlete models for each of the 32 countries in the game. (Okay, but many of those athletes look similar to us anyway)
- Latest motion capture technology using Olympic athletes. (Great, we can't wait to see the animations of people munching it in sprint cycling)
- Every location is architecturally correct, based on the actual design blueprints. (Star Trek fans may want to know; will the locations include restrooms?)
- Commentary by the actual Olympic TV commentators in each country. (Will Americans get Al Michaels and Dennis Miller?)
- Strength, skill and morale can increase in the Virtual Gym, which changes your athletes' physical appearance. (Virtual 3D muscles? Did Monolith's Jason Hall work on this game?)
