GT Interactive has a new driving game coming, and it's looking hot to us. It has the so-so name of "Driver," but think "Sabotage" and you'll get a better idea of what it is about. We mean Sabotage as in the Beastie Boys video of the same name. 1970's vintage American iron big block V8's flying off hilltops in San Francisco streets. Undercover cops with mustaches and hairy chests driving in chases through New York traffic. Oh yeah baby, it's the Blues Brothers all over again.
You play Tanner, an undercover cop trying to infiltrate the mob by posing as a driver for hire. Your missions take you through the cities of New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in the pursuit of justice, at high speed. Each city is modeled after the real thing, and they average 150,000 buildings per city. Add landmarks like the Empire State Building to the mix and you've got the feel of where you are.
And after the chase, you can edit a film of the action from various angles to recreate your own Blues Brothers crashstravoganza. When you're done editing, you can sit back and watch yourself bottom out on a dip from the front seat of those who you left in the dust. Expect "Driver" from GT Interactive sometime in September.
