In addition to Squad Leader, Hasbro looks to finally deliver on a long awaited licensed property in Starship Troopers. The original version of this game was an action game, but now it is a real-time strategy game. Like the movie of the same name, Starship Troopers is about the battle between humans and giant bugs, and a can of insecticide isn’t good enough for these beasts. Take on 15 different types of giant insects with armed troops. In the single player game, you command the humans, but in multiplayer, you can command the bugs.
The graphics were not stunning, but adequately presented the look and feel of the movie’s troops and insects, with bugs surfacing from the sand in droves. Some depth is present in the variety of weapons and armor available to your troops, and in specialized troop types such as combat engineers and stealth commandos. There are also some nice commands for directing AI units. Stay tuned; we bet Starship Troopers won’t be a Starcraft killer, but it might be better than most games based on movies.
