Gamers that loved Independence War's realistic ship physics, harrowing space combat, and gritty science fiction story are in for more with this sequel. Iwar2 takes place 100 years after the original game, and after a period of prosperity and complacency, the New Alliance finds itself under the boot of evil corporations after selling rights to valuable jump gates.

The developers are shooting for a more open-ended game with 16 star systems to explore, but to keep things interesting, will still place a heavy emphasis on the single-player story. The player's character, Cal Johnston, is a bit of a freelancer in the beginning, but as he moves through the game will become more involved in a new war for independence. Missions will appear to him in the form of emails, and there will be some freedom on how players can prepare for and accomplish them.

The game will require a 3D video card, and will support Direct 3D. The graphics, accordingly, looked fantastic. Particle Systems is improving the interface, and demoed a series of system dialogs that could be easily navigated with the joysick hat, allowing you to continue using the main joystick for ship control.
