While using the Baldur’s Gate engine and the same Advanced Dungeons & Dragons second edition rules of Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale is a return to basics. The game will focus on classic dungeon crawls of the early D&D era (and Diablo, for that matter). It’s also designed as more of an introductory title for newer players, though there’s no doubting the ability of any game using the Baldur’s Gate engine to please veterans too. Characters, for example, will cap around experience level 15.

The story of the game takes place in a snowy locale called the Spine of the World seen in the books by Robert Salvatore. Players can expect to see some new art styles, plus the requisite battery of new creatures, weapons, magic items, and spells. Icewind Dale supports screen resolutions of 640x480, up to six characters in a player party, and will have multiplayer options.
