Everyone remembers Activision's BattleZone right (or even earlier still the 80s arcade game)? Despite being a great title, which mixed strategic elements and resource gathering with first person action into a rather unique game, it didn't do too well in the charts… A shame really as it also painted a pretty picture (3D accelerated in terms of sound and the graphics).

For BattleZone 2 the boys (and girls?) at Pandemic Studios have cooked up a new graphics engine that via Direct3D is quite capable of churning out some fine visuals as the shots below will confirm. Expect all the normal features to be included, we're talking fog, particles, excessive alpha transparency effects and more.
BattleZone 2 will feature over 30 unique units for you to command or battle against including tanks, infantry and loads more. It'll also harbor a whole host of futuristic combat vehicles such as walkers, mammoth assault tanks and speedy mortar bikes for you to pilot while shouting out commands to the left and right in the heat of battle. Not to mention a brand new campaign with new worlds to explore whilst plundering for technology and resources. What more can one ask for? Oh yes the shots…
Expect BattleZone 2 to ship later this year.
