There was one game on show at the G.O.D. Games Promised Lot at E3 that I missed seeing, and the more I learn about it the more I regret it. A number of massively multiplayer (and often massively successful) games have appeared in recent years and this influx of titles doesn't look likely to slow any time soon. One company working on a new massively multiplayer role-playing game (MMRPG) is Wolfpack Studios with their first title, Shadowbane.
Shadowbane is doing things a little different. In fact, the developers have pretty much thrown the rulebook out the window and done the complete opposite to many current MMRPGs. Player versus player is encouraged (while you can initially beat up monsters to gain experience as you improve, it's more worth your while to kill other players), and players taking over towns plays an important part in the game. This certainly makes a change from other RPGs where player versus player is often discouraged and any attempt to take over a town would call down the wrath of nearby Games Masters and guards.
