Tribes 2 is simply a massive sequel. It would have been enough to add a handful of new weapons, some graphical enhancements, and maybe even some single-player support. But the feature list here is pretty sizable. The graphics haven't been slightly enhanced; Dynamix says they completely replaced it. It certainly looks fantastic, and environments are huge, with different world types and special gameplay effects like quicksand and lightning. It was one of the best looking games at E3, though part of the reason is that it requires a 3D accelerator. The focus is still on multiplayer gaming, and numerous utilities once considered extras are now standard, such as voice communication, automatic web hosting for players and squads, and an intuitive terrain editor.

Tribes 2 continues to build on the association with the Starsiege universe. The tribes from the first game are still bickering, but the BioDerms seen in other Starsiege games like Starsiege and Cyberstorm are back. They've renamed themselves the Scourge and as a common enemy to the various tribes, may generate some needful alliances among players.
