It's been well documented that Activision lost the FASA license and therefor will not be the developers behind MechWarrior 3, the third installation in the successful series. Instead FASA have licensed all the Mechs and the title to MicroProse. Staying true to the original, MechWarrior 3 places you in the heat of battle confined in the cockpit of a huge pile of walking metal armed with an armageddon of explosive warheads and laser weapons. In other words, you're a Mech pilot. There'll be huge outdoor and indoor environments to explore (how you fit a Mech inside is a mystery though) over a total of some 20+ missions.

The game will features detailed Mechs for you to blast away at as well as control plus there will be a whole heap of different makes and models to choose from (18 in total). New refined target reticles, which supposedly make things, feel just that little bit closer to perfection than in MechWarrior 2, will also make an appearance. And of course, being a game with full support for 3D acceleration we can expect enough graphical effects to simply blow us away. The developers have even promised that the game will be quite playable even on a Pentium 200MMX through their highly optimized software engine, however a 3D accelerator is as always recommended.

The game is due for release in late Q2 99 which means 'soon', but until you can experience it first hand why not have a look at these snazzy looking shots:
