Have any of you felt like running riot through the streets of Chicago in a car? Road rage anyone? Well thanks to Microsoft's recently announced Midtown Madness you will soon be able to. Although the game's title harbors the word 'Madness' in it, the game is no relation to Motocross Madness or Monster Truck Madness 2 (also published by Microsoft). What little we do know at this stage, is that at first glance, it resembles San Francisco Rush. That's where the similarity stops though because the tracks themselves will not essentially be linear. There won't actually be 'straight' tracks. You'll need to drive (choosing from one of ten vehicles) your way through the urban jungle and find the route that suits you best. If along the way you happen to crash into the odd car or plough through the odd building or two then all the better. It's safe to say that Midtown Madness will be about sheer arcade fun. As with previous Microsoft racing games, Midtown Madness will make use of 3D graphics accelerators via D3D as well as 3D sound with DirectSound 6.0. Multiplayer shenanigans will also be made readily available on The Zone. Microsoft has indicated to Sharky Extreme that a June '99 release looks on the cards.
