Cavedog is no doubt best known for their killer RTS Total Annihilation and their upcoming TA: Kingdoms which will be out later this year. But, they have another ace up their sleeve for those not geared towards pure RTS fun… Enter Good and Evil, the creation of Ron Gilbert who designed the incredibly successful LucasArts adventure, Monkey Island.
As Ron has indicated publicly, his personal favorites in game genres include RTS, RPG and adventure games. Thus he's set out to create a unique mix with elements from all three of them. A combat model closely resembling what you'd find in your standard RTS blended with tons of stats and character development a la RPG's. Finally this will be meshed with puzzles for you to solve as in any half-decent adventure game these days.
In Good and Evil you take on the role of a reluctant hero who just happens to have stumbled upon a universal crisis. Stumbling upon the classic struggle between Good and Evil (hence the title) you have to do your part, a great adventure lies ahead. With the aid of a fortune teller and her tarot cards you can travel between various worlds and carry out a whole bunch of different tasks, there'll be a total of some 50 levels to *solve* which can be played in any order. These are spread out across several different worlds including a pirate world, a wild west type setting and a fantasy land just to name a few.
The Gameplay itself will consist of you controlling a party of one or several characters in a top-down 3D environment where everything plays out in real time. Just like in your standard RTS you can group or select a single *unit* and just point them in the direction you want them to go. Easy enough. In this manner you walk about in the game world, battle enemies and solve puzzles etc.
As we mentioned earlier, you travel between a series of different worlds each inhabited by it's unique set of characters and as your party begins to form you may gather a rather multifaceted group of people under your command. How would you feel having a mid 14th century knight fighting side by side with a heavily armed cyborg along side you opposing a group of fearless gunslingers with Colt 44's in the Wild west while walking amongst a horde of blue cows (wait and see.. you'll get it).
