Units are controlled in a similar fashion to most other RTS titles, you can group your units, select individual ones and then set where they have to go or what they should attack or harvest. Controlling them in 3D might seem a little tricky but word has it that Relic has solved this through an innovative camera control system, which makes it quite natural.

As is the case with any good RTS, there will be a whole caboodle of battles to fight and once the single player scenarios have ended it'll be time to take on your friends in multiplayer. Homeworld will support either LAN play or Internet play via WON.net.

It had to come sometime eh? Yes indeed, Homeworld is full of really cool beans in terms of 3D visual effects. It'll run on any Direct3D or OpenGL compliant 3D accelerator. Creatively designed 3D rendered ships by the dozen; flashing lasers with huge explosions and snazzy alpha effects will all be in heavy use. In addition, rocket trails following each of the individual crafts (which look simply fantastic) jazz things up considerably. Anything else? Yes, Relic finishes up the whole picture by adding space nebulas and gas clouds for backdrops, thus painting a very pretty picture indeed.

Now, all you have to do is hold out till late Q2 '99 when Homeworld is expected to ship. To hold you over until then, have a peek at these super-fab shots:
