Electronic Arts started making baseball games for computers over 10 years ago. Since then we have come a long way from CGA graphics and generic rosters. Since its inception in the mid-90s, their Triple Play series has primarily been about the graphics and an arcade style of game play. As you might guess, Triple Play 2001 does nothing to change that tradition. Let's read on and see if this game is worth buying.

First let's tell you what's new in the 2001 edition of Triple Play.

Since a baseball game in and of itself is nothing new or original, game publishers need to spice up each year's version to make it worth buying. It is no longer acceptable just to update rosters. EA Sports, for the first time that I can remember, has gone the extra mile in adding features that are fun, including: "Big League Challenge" and "Extreme Big League Challenge," which are variations on the tried and true home run derby.

Triple Play 2001 also includes historical players such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and others, as well as including internet play and a ranking system through EA's proprietary EA Sports.net.

For a really personalized touch, you can import your own face onto one of the players in the game and record your own taunts for multiplayer play.
