Ka-52 Team Alligator wants you to know the challenges of managing men at war on and off the battlefield. This simulation drops you in the Russian Ka-52 attack helicopter, but also allows optional management of helicopter maintenance and pilot scheduling. Simulating more than just the shooting, Team Alligator reminds the player that fatigue, morale, and supply are important constructs in the infrastructure of war. Does it succeed in creating a multidimensional war? Yes, though the results are sometimes curious.

The helicopter simulation, the primary part of the game, has some high points, but Team Alligator shoots itself in the foot with a weakened flight model. The flight model in the beta was more realistic than the one that made it to production. Most annoying is a huge dead zone in the control input. Pitching the helicopter up to ten degrees in any direction has no effect. This also makes one of the realism settings unrealistic. The "control input delay" toggle might be a realistic and challenging element of flying the Russian craft. But combine this setting with the flight model's already generally mushy and poor response, and the result is a helicopter that even the best Russian pilots would refuse to fly.

If this flight model change intended to make the game more accessible, it fails by making the Ka-52 harder to fly than it should be. Team Alligator already includes useful toggles to reduce difficulty, such as improved survivability, improved weapon lethality, or reduced enemy effectiveness. The flight model toggles allow players to enable/disable such effects as blade stall, ground effect, and aircraft stability. The ground effect is one of the realistic items present in the game and along with the other options, hints that the developers originally planned a realistic flight model. Thanks to the work of some third parties, however, players can download custom patches that bring the flight model to a more respectable standard.
